Ride the Island
This year, River Action is thrilled to present Ride the Island, an exciting twist on Ride the River! Join us on Father's Day for the opportunity to ride the roads and trails on the Rock Island Arsenal while exploring its rich history and visiting iconic landmarks.

Soft Trail Stroll: Center Trails Rollercoaster and Roses
Join us for a walk along the north part of Rollercoaster Trail and an excursion through the Rose Garden. We will meet on the west side of the Des Moines Art Center. Park on Myron and Jacqueline Blank Pkwy by 10:00 a.m.

Soft Trail Stroll: Grandview Loop
Let’s return to Grandview Park. It is a 60-acre park with several parking lots. Park along East 32nd Street just north of Guthrie Avenue. We will leave from there at 10:00 a.m.

Soft Trail Stroll: Sycamore Trails North Loop w/ Fresh Cut
Let’s stroll the short loop at Sycamore Trails in Johnston. Meet by 10:00 a.m. at the gravel parking lot on the south side of 66th Avenue, just west of the Des Moines River.

Soft Trail Stroll: Denman Woods Inner Loop
Join us for a walk at Denman Woods. This flat trail is south of Center Trails in Des Moines. Park along the south side of North Valley Drive west of the bridge over Walnut Creek. Meet by 10:00 at the west end of the bridge.

Great Rubber Duck Splash plus Duck Dash 5K
Join North Star for the annual Great Rubber Duck Splash. Adopt a duck for $5 and entrance is free. Come to The Falls on race day to cheer on your ducks as they "swim" the lazy river - first ducks across the finish line win cash prizes (first place is $1,000). This fun family-friendly event has swimming, games, balloon animals and this year there will be a pre-heat race!

2025 Learning Collaborative on Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025 the Iowa Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services will host its fifth annual virtual learning collaborative on childhood lead poisoning prevention to advance childhood lead poisoning prevention through collective impact. The purpose of this event is to highlight programs and services throughout Iowa that have been successful in implementing strategies for addressing and preventing childhood lead poisoning.

Clinton Half Marathon (and 5K, 10K)
Located in scenic Clinton, Iowa, runners can choose a race distance of 5k, 10k, or Half Marathon. The race starts along 5th Avenue South in Historic Downtown Clinton, quickly traversing Riverview Drive, paralleling the mighty Mississippi, with challenging hill climbs leading to Eagle Point Park’s majestic overlook of the widest part of the Mississippi River! This is one of the most exciting racing experiences of the season!

EmpowerED Minds: The School Wellness Summit
EmpowerED Minds: The School Wellness Summit (formerly known as the Iowa BEST Summit) brings together ~1,000 K-12 educators and higher education professionals for a transformative conference focused on fostering well-being and mental health within educational communities.
Join us September 30-October 1, 2025 in Des Moines.

The Harvest & Handmade Fair at Water Works Park presented by Wellabe is a family-friendly event featuring over 125 vendors, activities & games, live entertainment, food truck village & more. Home Depot will provide activities for kids 12 and under.

Improving Health Outcomes Through Preventing Childhood Obesity Conference
Healthy LifeStars will host its seventh annual conference to bring awareness, education and networking opportunities to prevent childhood obesity by bringing together like-minded people to learn and network. The conference will be virtual this year. The conference will include experts from across the country presenting their cutting-edge research in childhood nutrition, physical activity, and prevention of long term adverse health effects caused by obesity.

National Trails Day at Fourmile Mountain Bike Park
National Trails Day is Saturday, June 7, and we are celebrating the new Fourmile Mountain Bike Park. “It features a network of soft surface trails that are ideal for mountain biking, hiking, trail running, and groomed trails for winter fat biking.“
We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the gravel parking lot at the corner of Williams Street and East Washington Avenue.

Soft Trail Stroll: Southwoods Keep Right Loop
This free Soft Trail Stroll series is designed to help people looking for a simple way to become more active, and to increase appreciation of our local soft trails.

Fort Dodge Make it Ok Day Event/Walk
The community is invited to wear green, walk around the city square and talk with mental health resources who will have tables set up at the square.
There will be food truck available to purchase lunch.

Join us for a 2.5-mile walk at Denman Woods. This flat trail is south of Center Trails in Des Moines. Park along the south side of North Valley Drive west of the bridge over Walnut Creek. Meet by 10:00 at the west end of the bridge.

Soft Trail Stroll: Ewing Park Lilacs
Let’s visit the Ewing Park lilacs! Meet by 10:00 a.m. in our usual Ashley Okland Star Playground parking lot on south side of McKinley, just west of Indianola Avenue.

Soft Trail Stroll: Southwoods Clockwise Doubleback
Join us for a 1.5-mile stroll through the woods of Southwoods Park. This park is just off 35th Street, south of Mills Civic Parkway, in West Des Moines. Meet by 10:00 a.m. in the disc golf course parking lot.

2025 Arrowhead Trail Run
Arrowhead Trail Run is a 5k marked course at Arrowhead Park near Neola, Iowa. Choose the traditional 5k distance, 2 laps for a 10k, or complete as many laps as you can in a 4 hour Enduro! Medals will be awarded for the top 10 Male and Female in the 5k, 10k and Enduro events. ALL are welcome to run, jog, walk or hike at your own pace.

Building On Ourselves (B.O.O.) Daye Event
The 3rd Annual Building on Ourselves Day will be October 26, 2024, at the MLK Center, 1650 Garfield Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50316. The event will start at 9:30 a.m. and conclude by noon. The event will feature walks ranging from one to three miles.
The Building on Ourselves event, which aims to raise health awareness among people of color, is named in honor of our esteemed Brother Broderick Richard "Boo" Daye.

Arrowhead Obstacle Trail Run is a 5k (3.1 mile) event on the scenic trails of Arrowhead Park near Neola, Iowa featuring 15+ obstacles. There is also a 1 Mile Kid's Obstacle Trail Run with 10+ obstacles! All proceeds benefit the Pottawattamie County Trails Association.

Floatzilla 2024
Floatzilla, the largest paddle event on the Mississippi! Held annually in the beautiful Quad Cities region, Floatzilla brings together paddling enthusiasts from all over the country for a day of fun and adventure on the Mississippi River. With over a thousand participants and the river closed down to commercial watercraft, Floatzilla offers a unique opportunity to explore the area's natural beauty.

2024 Moonlight Bike Ride
Pump up your tires and fasten your helmet, because the Moonlight Bike Ride is back on August 16! Scheduled from 7-10:30 PM on Friday, August 16, 2024, this ride will ensure fun for the whole family! Following the Friday Night Live Summer Series, riders can head over to Central Park and get registered to ride!

2024 Iowa Hunger Summit
The Iowa Hunger Summit is a free, public event held each year in late summer or early fall.
The Iowa Hunger Summit brings together hundreds of Iowans from across the state representing community organizations, business and industry, state and local government, social agencies, churches and religious communities, academia and other groups that lead or participate in projects to eradicate hunger.
The event will feature speakers and panel sessions with leaders and experts in confronting hunger and food insecurity through a variety of lenses.

NEIAWRC Big Four Fair 5k
NEIAWRC Big Four Fair 5k on Saturday June 15th. 7:30 AM start time at the Big Four Fair Grounds. Medals for 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each age groups. Refreshments following.
Hawkeye Days 5k
Healthy Hawkeye Coalition is sponsoring a 5k in Hawkeye in correlation to our town's annual celebration. Our town is working hard to find healthy initiatives that bring our community together

Reliable Street Farmer’s Market
The Reliable Street Farmer’s Market will be hosting local vendors, family activities, and musical entertainment. However, the main goal of our event is to provide our community with a free meal and fresh, local produce.

NEIAWRC QPR Training
Alive and Running Iowa will be presenting a free QPR (suicide prevention) training at Northeast Iowa Wellness & Recreation Center. This is event will also be a great follow up to our Mental Health Awareness Night on May 7th with a Make it Ok presentation and a showing of the movie My Ascension.

Fort Dodge Make it Ok Day Event/Walk
Come join Community Health Center and many local mental health resources to show your support for reducing the mental health stigma. Wear green, take a stroll around the square, grab lunch and chat with local resources. Free and open to anyone who would like to attend.

Make It OK Walk
Walk, learn, show support by being involved, and spread awareness for mental health. This event is FREE & open to the public. By design, this event allows participants to walk, seek resources, chat, and enjoy lunch at their own leisure. Take a quick lap on your lunch break or stay the entire time - either way, your support is appreciated and makes a difference in our community.
