Soft Trail Stroll: Fourmile MTB Park ATC-Hydro

Fourmile Mountain Bike Park is “a soft surface trail system oriented towards recreational mountain biking, hiking, trail running, and groomed trails for winter fat biking” in the wooded land north of Copper Creek Lake. Park in the gravel lot along Washington Avenue (no sign) off Williams Street. We will leave from there at 10:00 a.m.

Join us for the most festive fun run around! Kick off the holiday season by grabbing your family, friends, and co-workers to form a team. Don't forget to sport your favorite holiday attire or costumes, we will provide the bells! Then you'll enjoy jingling your way to the finish line! Come early as we will have visits and pictures with Santa and Disney princesses from 8:30-9:30AM before kicking off the kids fun run and 5K. Register today!

Soft Trail Stroll: Grandview Park Loop

Let’s return to Grandview Park. It is a 60-acre park with several parking lots. Park along East 32nd Street just north of Guthrie Avenue. We will leave from there at 10:00 a.m.

Our walk will use the Grandview Nature Trail and paved roads in the park to make a loop. The loop is about 1.7 miles.

Dogtown District Walkability Workshop

Numerous individuals and organizations throughout the greater Des Moines area have an interest in creating walkable, livable places in and around their homes and places of work, play, and community. AARP Iowa is partnering with America Walks and the Des Moines Area MPO to bring together many of those individuals for a no-cost walkability workshop in Des Moines' Dogtown district on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The workshop is designed to engage community leaders, local stakeholders, and walkability advocates in a day of learning how to conduct a walk audit and use the walk audit as an advocacy tool for improving active transportation in their communities.

Central Iowa Trail Association and Polk County Conservation are working together to create integrated trails and green spaces that will serve as recreation and conservation areas for the entire community.
