National Trails Day at Fourmile Mountain Bike Park

National Trails Day is Saturday, June 7, and we are celebrating the new Fourmile Mountain Bike Park. “It features a network of soft surface trails that are ideal for mountain biking, hiking, trail running, and groomed trails for winter fat biking.“

We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the gravel parking lot at the corner of Williams Street and East Washington Avenue.

We’ll have a few words from our sponsors so you can learn more about our local trails and the organizations that use and care for them. Then we’ll split into hiking, running, and biking groups.

• 3-Mile Hike, led by Katherine Roccasecca from Roccasecca Fitness
• 1-Mile Walk, led by Peggy Kirk from Roccasecca Fitness
• 5–8 Mile Trail Run, led by Matt Millard from Capital Striders Turkeys and Altoona Running Club
• Mountain Bike Ride, led by Central Iowa Trail Association

Afterward, we can regroup for lunch over at the nearby Copper Creek area.

To give back to the trails, bags will be available that you can stick in your pocket in case you see any trash.

Sponsored by the American Hiking Society, National Trails Day provides the perfect opportunity to set off on a local trail with others in your community. Join the movement to give back to trails and build a world where everyone feels welcome and has access to enjoy the great outdoors.

Take the National Trails Day® Pledge and promise to leave the trails and the outdoor community better than you found them. Take the pledge for your chance of winning one of four gear prize packages.
