The Annual Walk is an opportunity to join thousands of other Iowans statewide in walking for 30 minutes. Workplaces, schools, organizations and cities are all encouraged to register a walk!
Being physically active is one of the most important steps that people of all ages and abilities can take to improve their health. Walking is an easy, accessible and affordable way to improve your physical, social, and mental health.

2023 Healthiest State Annual Walk Challenges
Cities Walking Challenge
The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative and the Iowa League of Cities partnered again in 2023 for the Iowa Cities Walking Challenge as part of the 13th Annual Healthiest State Walk! Cities across Iowa were pitted against each other to see who could hold the largest registered community wide walk to encourage healthy habits and lifestyles. The city with the highest percentage of their population registered will claim first place and a $1,000 cash prize to continue encouraging healthy habits in their community. 2023 Winner: Breda
School Mascot Challenge
The School Mascot Challenge returned in 2023 for the 13th Annual Healthiest State Walk! The first 32 schools to register a walk were entered into a bracket and went head to head every week on social media to see who can get the most votes. One winning school at the end of the bracket was awarded $1,000 to start or fund a healthy incentive project! 2023 Winner: Winfield Mt. Union
