Floatzilla is a paddling event on the Mississippi River. Participants launch from 6 sites all over the Quad Cities, then make their way downstream to Lake Potter in Rock Island, Illinois. Participants then may enjoy food from a selection of our local food trucks and listen to live music and djs while paddling in the lake. We typically take a group photo trying to break the world record for largest paddlecraft flotilla, but with the pandemic, we have forgone that last year, and are planning on skipping it again this year. In response to the pandemic, we expanded launch site times to four hours long, and limited the numbers launching from each site to 400. We also had participants schedule their launch time so that there would never be more than 50 participants launching every half hour. The shuttle service ran all day instead of just at the end of the event, like we usually do. This helped space out people taking the shuttle service, keeping the busses from being full at any one time. It also helped limit the crowd size at Lake Potter. Since we are still experiencing high covid transmission rates, we are planning the event with the same precautions in place for 2021.
