We need your help to stop the silence on mental illness in Iowa.
Mental health was identified as a top priority in 86 of the 99 community health needs assessments. 1 in 5 Iowans will have some kind of mental illness in a given year, and many don't get the help they need due to stigma, fear of repercussions at work and the lack of access to quality and affordable treatment. Recognizing that stigma is a major barrier to seeking treatment, the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative launched Make It OK, a community campaign to reduce stigma of mental illness.
When we start talking, we realize that mental illnesses are more common and relatable than we think. And more importantly, people experiencing mental illnesses will be treated with respect, acceptance and be more apt to get the care they need when stigma is eliminated. We hope you can join us at this presentation and discussion to learn more about Make It OK and ways to engage.
