The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative (HSI), in collaboration with Broadlawns Medical Center, conducted a 6-month pilot of a produce prescription program from June 2021 to February 2022. The Polk County Produce Prescription Program (PCPPP), connected food insecure patients with diet related diseases (diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, etc.) to medical providers that wrote prescriptions for free fruits and vegetables, while delivering nutrition education and collecting biometrics monthly.

Iowans across the state participated in the 12th Annual Walk, presented by Delta Dental of Iowa, by walking for 30 minutes on Wednesday with friends, family, neighbors, colleagues, and classmates.

On Thursday September 29th, the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative attended the National Produce Prescription Collaborative (NPPC) Day of Action event in Washington D.C. The event follows the release of the White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health which set a goal to end hunger and increase healthy eating and physical activity by 2030, so fewer Americans experience diet-related diseases - while reducing related health disparities.

In 2021, the IKM-Manning Community School District claimed their second School Mascot Challenge title in the 8 years of the competition. Since winning last year, they used their prize money to put on an amazing event for their middle schoolers to encourage healthy habits, and make memories for years to come!

Registration for the 2022 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! Summit is now open. On Wednesday, October 26th, experts implementing the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! program across the state will gather in person to share strategies for encouraging healthy choices in schools, early care, out-of-school programs, health care clinics and communities.
