Here are 4 ways you can participate in your school, workplace, health care site or community during October
October is Healthiest State Month! Throughout the month we will celebrate the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! program.
5-2-1-0 represents the healthy habits we should strive for everyday:
- 5 or more fruits or vegetables
- 2 hours or less of recreational screen time
- 1 hour or more of physical activity
- 0 sugary drinks - drink more water!
Order a 5-2-1-0 T-shirt, pictured here, in our Healthiest State Initiative store.
Each week in the month of October will be dedicated to each of the individual numbers in 5-2-1-0. Here is a schedule of Healthiest State Month events:
- October 1-5: 1 hour or more of physical activity
- October 8-12: 5 or more fruits or vegetables
- October 15-19: 2 hours or less of recreational screen time
- October 22-26: 0 sugary drinks – drink more water!
1. Download a toolkit
We want to make participating in Healthiest State Month fun and easy for your school, child care center, health care clinic, workplace or community. That's why we created celebration toolkits! The toolkit will provide you with the resources to celebrate 5-2-1-0 all month long. It's as easy as picking one (or more!) activity per week.
2. Hang up a poster (or two!)
Did you know you can order 5-2-1-0 materials, like posters and brochures, for FREE!? Hang up posters in your student classrooms or employee break rooms to show your support for 5-2-1-0. We also made speciality Bathroom Banter mini-newsletters for each week of Healthiest State Month for you to print and hang up in student or staff restrooms.
3. Share on social media
If you are participating in Healthiest State Month, be sure to share your 5-2-1-0 fun on social media with the hashtag #HealthyChoicesCount. Sites that participate in each week will be entered to win a variety of 5-2-1-0 themed prizes. Learn more about social media contests in our toolkits. Or download 5-2-1-0 social media graphics to get started.
4. Attend the 5-2-1-0 Summit
Healthiest State Month will end with the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! Summit on October 30 at Des Moines University. Join us to learn from experts from across the state working in the schools, child care, out-of-school programs, health care and communities as they share their experiences to adopt strategies to support the healthy choice as the easy choice.
