Pledge to spend time offline with friends and family.
If you were given 43 free days off a year, what would you do with them? Take a vacation? Read a few books? Spend time with your family or go on a nature adventure?
What if we told you those free 43 days are actually wasted scrolling on your smart phone.
Those handy little gadgets are usually never more than an arms length away. A recent study showed American adults spend, on average, 2 hours and 51 minutes on their smart phones each day. That’s about 86 hours a month and totals 43 days each year.
We want you to take advantage of all 43 days. Together we can connect without the screen! Here are some alternative activities to your usual screen-free excuses:
“But I want to play Candy Crush” — Have you ever heard of Candy Land? Get out the good ol' board game and save your eyes some strain. Too much time staring at a screen can be harmful to your vision health. Pick a character and enjoy some laughs with your family.
SUFFER FROM EYE STRAIN? These tips will give you relief.
“But I won’t know what’s going on in my friends lives without Facebook” — Plan to go on a walk with a few neighbors to the park. They’ll fill you in on what’s been happening in their lives. If you have a family, bring them along too and you all can team up for a game of basketball or tag. Get your recommended one hour of physical activity and connect with friends — it's a win-win!
“But how do I get a recipe without Pinterest?” — Nothing says family bonding like making a healthy meal together. Introduce your friends and family to the old fashioned cookbook. Maybe you could make it a family friendly competition and see which team makes the best dish. Don't forget to add fruits and veggies to the meal to get your recommended five servings every day.
- Get 5 servings of fruits and vegetables.
- Reduce your screen time to 2 hours per day.
- Get 1 hour of physical activity.
- Set a goal of 0 sugary drinks — drink more water!
