3 fun winter activities for kids
It’s hard to find motivation to get outside during the cold winter months. The cozy warmth of your home is hard to pass up, but as long as you bundle up – going outside during winter can be beneficial and more fun than staying inside. Not only do you reap the benefits of vitamin D from the sun, but it can also help your emotional health, creativity and focus!
Here are some fun activities to get your kids outside this winter:
Spray Paint the Snow
Let your kid’s creativity take over with this fun and low-prep activity. All you need are spray bottles and some food coloring! Fill the spray bottles almost full of water and add 4-5 drops of food coloring to the bottles to make safe snow paint. If you don’t have spray bottles, substitute it with bowls and a paint brush. All that’s left to do is release your kids’ creativity using the snow as a canvas!

Kids will practically jump into their snow pants when they hear the word "sledding." This fun winter activity is perfect for a family outing and will leave your kids smiling and exhausted. Head to your neighborhood hill or a local sledding hill and get ready for a day full of smiles!

Host the winter Olympics straight from your backyard! Not only will this give your kids a good workout and boost their heart health, but it will also give them a chance to practice their motor skills, balance and hand-eye coordination. All you need to do is gather your participants, plan your events, suit up in your snow gear and let the games begin! Some fun events that you could host are:
- 100-meter Snow Run
- Snow Jump (like the long jump, but in snow)
- Snow Biathlon (swap the shooting for snowballs)
- Sled Race (like bobsled, but in your own sleds)
Before going outdoors, remember to take caution and prepare for the weather. Always wear layers just in case, bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, and always know the weather forecast to avoid getting caught in a winter storm. After you check all these boxes, choose one of these activities and enjoy the outdoors with your kids!
