What has been your biggest lesson learned with incorporating 5-2-1-0 Health Care to your practice?

I think for me I found that there are little changes we can make that patients are wanting to change and wanting to do. I think I used to make very general statements, such as "Eat more fruits and vegetables," "Don’t do screen time," and move on. I think incorporating the program has given more specific goals that I think patients want to do and work for patients.

Have you seen your patients positively impacted by 5-2-1-0? In what ways?

Definitely. I think that particularly having (5-2-1-0 messaging) out there making it easier for them to see has made a difference. Patients have looked at the poster before coming into the room and will say “I know I am supposed to be getting five (fruits and vegetables)” so I think when you know those guidelines and you thinking about them, it makes a big difference.

RESOURCES: Get 5-2-1-0 resources for health care sites

Is there a piece of 5-2-1-0 Health Care that has changed the way you administer a Well-Child Visit?

I think the questionnaire has made the biggest difference for me.  Being able to actually see and write down how many fruits and vegetables are you eating, how much screen time, how much exercise are they’re getting. It’s been easy to scan and talk about!

In what ways do you see your facility growing in the 5-2-1-0 Health Care efforts?

I think we have seen positive changes from the little things we have started doing, and I think when you see positive changes, it inspires you to take the next step and find more resources. We were helped when (IMS) brought us posters and bright colored resources. We will keep going! It’s motivating!

POSTERS: Order free materials including posters and brochures

How has your clinic/staff members been impacted by incorporating 5-2-1-0?

I think it has empowered us to try and make good changes.  We are rotating the posters around so everyone is seeing them, we have tried to get a better message overall. We also made coloring pages that had to do with healthy lifestyle for the waiting room. We are just trying to change our environment slowly but surely!
